Finding hotels in New Zealand
New Zealand is one of the jewels of the South Pacific, an island nation whose roots are British but its identity is all its own. Massive mountain ranges give way to the tree-lined streets of Wellington or Christchurch. Even better, there are a limitless number of outdoor activities to enjoy, from scuba diving to mountain climbing. Things You’ll Need: Computer with Internet access in order to book accommodations online. Valid passport from your nation of origin and all appropriate visas. Pick a Destination and Accommodations in New Zealand Save money in your budget for a few nights at a luxury lodge. These are New Zealand's version of the bed and breakfast and, though a bit expensive at $200 or more per night, they're worth every penny. Keep a few dollars in your pocket and sleep in a youth hostel in one of the major cities like Christchurch or Wellington. Rooms are rarely more than $40 per night. Keep your money in your wallet and rent a campervan to enjoy during your trip. You'll have access to a huge number of terrific campgrounds, and you'll spend less than $100 per night total. Sleep for free on one of New Zealand's many campgrounds. Few actually charge admission, but instead sell equipment and gear to tourists who need a few additions. Book accommodations early when planning a trip to New Zealand between November and April. This is peak travel season--summer in the southern hemisphere. Enjoy something unique to New Zealand and sleep in a Maori homestay. Numerous Maori families offer rooms in their homes for guests, and many a tourist has made a lifelong friend in this way. Get in and Around New Zealand Fly into any one of no less than seven international airports. Auckland, Christchurch and Wellington are the most frequented and feature air travel from Europe, the United States, Asia and more. Relax on board one of New Zealand's many railways. Regular service connects cities like Auckland, Wellington, Christchurch and Greymouth. Take a flight from one island of New Zealand to another. Domestic flights are known to be very inexpensive, and they are often cheaper than driving or taking the train. Get to Know Local Laws and Customs in New Zealand Change your money at the airport or at one of the major tourist hubs. Tip between 5 percent and 10 percent when you feel you've received good service in restaurants. It's not expected, but has become more prevalent in recent years.
